MEDICINE HAT, AB — April 28 marks the one year anniversary of the stay of charges against Connie Oakes.

Oakes, along with Wendy Scott were convicted of second-degree murder after Casey Armstrong was found stabbed in the bathtub of his mobile home in Medicine Hat in May 2011.

Last year, the Alberta Court of Appeal ordered new trials for both women after Scott, who has a low IQ and cognitive difficulties, retracted her confession and testimony.

The Crown  stayed the charges against both women.

Oakes is currently in custody after entering a guilty plea to charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement in connection with a stabbing near Maple Creek. She will be sentenced on June 7.

Medicine Hat police say the Lethbridge Police is conducting a third-party investigation into the Armstrong file.

Medicine Hat Police Inspector Tim McGough speaks with CHAT Television below about the status of the investigation.
